Testament by Zsuzsanna T. Krausz
Earth. Soil. Fruit. Fuzzy peaches. Sinfully tasteful cherries. Vegetables.
Flowery Cabbage. Curvy broccoli. Red, vibrating tomatoes. Fleshy, yet patient paprika.
Delightful stinky garlic. All this represents the unique culture of my Hungarian country.
Resonance of my childhood on a garden of much variety. Not only of fruits and vegetables
growing out of soil, but of a garden of unconditional love and a rainbow of unique colors.
I recreate my memories in acrylic paint on canvas. The texture
of acrylic reminds me of the wet mud, the texture of the soil after a heavy rainy day. As
a child I used to draw in the earth, making different figures and shapes. I still remember
the smell of the soil. I like to use big strokes because it allows me to feel the shapes,
and the curves of my subjects. My love to colors like the music to my ears. Yellow color
represents the rising sun, beginning of a symphony to me, following with red I go direct
to the heart. To balance the big excitement green or purple is finishing my vision.
I paint my fruit and vegetable large, to slow the viewer down,
and to show the beauty of the everyday world. With my large colorful pieces I rediscover
my childhood, in which my Family and I planted seeds in the garden of rich Hungarian soil.
I was fascinated by nature, to see the seed to grow to
maturity, and witness the step by step process. First to see the blossom, followed by a
little bud and that became our fruit or vegetable. I remember my strong desire to touch or
smell of the fruit or vegetable, and my Grandmothers final decision to bring them
down or pick it up- to feast.
As I work on these paintings, rich memories come floating into
my heart and flow into the paintings.
I share through the eyes of my childhood the vibrating colors
that have become the passion of my adulthood. |
